It was an honour to be able to present World War Two RAF veteran Whitson Johnson with a model and a drawing of a Tiger Moth from his comrades at Lothians Veterans Centre as a mark of respect and esteem for his service. We had planned to have Whitson as our guest of honour at a VE Day street party last year to celebrate the 75th anniversary, but Covid got in the way. Whitson is now at the Erskine home in Bishopton and we were able to make the presentation as restrictions are eased. Huge thanks to the Provost of Midlothian, Councillor Peter Smaill, for coming through to make the presentation, Provost Smaill is also the Armed Forces champion for Midlothian Council. Also many thanks to veteran Graham Masters for the fantastic drawing of the Tiger Moth, mounted with a photo of Whitson taken in Rangoon during the war. Thanks also to Erskine Veterans Charity for hosting the event and the members of Whitson’s family who were able to attend and make the occasion even more memorable. It was a great day with a great man.
